Shalaka Kala, Student LIFEforce
1. What does being part of the Student LIFEforce Tribe mean to you?
Personally, for me being part of the Student LIFEforce Tribe means having a family away from home. It’s a true sense of family and belonging in a community within chiropractic, that is bigger than any one being. As a united force we envision advancing chiropractic care to everyone and serving with the Lasting Purpose within us. When first starting chiropractic school, it was easy to feel overwhelmed due to multiple factors such as being away from home, in a new country, and by the academic workload and responsibilities of the path I had chosen. But student LIFEforce gave me a sense of belonging and purpose. It reminded me that I am not just here to get a degree — but to be a part of something bigger, that my destiny long before already had chosen for me, to carry forward a mission that has the power to change lives.
Our tribe’s mission is very close to my heart also, to be able to educate the society about chiropractic and to provide them the awareness of the innate potential within all of us. As many individuals are unaware of this innate potential, through their daily busy and stressful lives. Together, I believe that our tribe as a family holds each other accountable, encourages growth within each of us, and it is a constant reminder of why chiropractic chose me, and all of us, in the path to enlighten the lives of others with the power of chiropractic.
2. How have you grown — personally, professionally, and in living out Lasting Purpose — through your experience in Student LIFEforce?
Student LIFEforce has been purposeful in many ways to help me grow in ways I never imagined. As the famous saying goes, “a diamond has to be placed under pressure in order to sparkle and shine.” Personally, I’ve gained a new perspective of training and growing my innate power stronger, to help carry forward the mission I hold within myself, which is to serve all individuals through the source of my innate onto theirs. Professionally, I’ve enhanced my confidence of communicating effectively to others about chiropractic which always seemed intimidating when I first started the program. I have also enhanced my skills of learning how to carry myself as a leader and a future doctor. By the means of lasting purpose, I’ve learned to approach every situation with a heart of service — that means showing up as part of the tribe, a student, a colleague, and a friend for those who need, or volunteering my time to share chiropractic with the community. It has truly helped me align with my true self and with why chiropractic chose me.
3. What has the mentorship from LIFEforce Tribe Members meant to you as a future chiropractor?
The valuable mentorship that has been provided, has been one of the most impactful parts of my journey. Having our LIFEforce Tribe Members, advisors and doctors who believe in me, and who also take the time to share their experiences, their challenges and their victories — has been an incredibly grounding experience. Their stories and guidance mold me consistently on how I see myself as a future chiropractor, and it inspires me to one day mentor students in the same way.
4. How is Student LIFEforce helping prepare you for a successful chiropractic career — and why is that important for your mission to serve and educate your community?
Throughout my academic career, I have always been at service in the community, whether that be joining the navy cadets, and thereafter the air cadets. Or volunteering in serving opportunities, through my school or other community based programs. This sense of serving out of a sense of my own abundance has been within me all along. When I started the program, I was longing for opportunities of serving again and that is when I became a part of Student LIFEforce. Our force has aided me in transforming my own sense of abundance by fueling me with real-life opportunities to share the word of chiropractic with leadership and communication skills and having the mindset of being a servant and a leader. It’s consistently teaching me how to share the chiropractic message with passion and clarity, so that I can educate my future community with confidence. This learning curve matters deeply to me because I want the people I serve to understand the “why” behind chiropractic — not only “what is chiropractic”, but rather to live healthier, fuller lives, with unlocking each individual’s innate potential. Being part of SLF is helping me see that success as a chiropractor is not just about building a practice, it’s about building trust, relationships, and a legacy of service, which is how I desire to lead my future life and career.
Karla Vazquez, Student LIFEforce
1. What does being part of the Student LIFEforce Tribe mean to you? Being part of Student LIFEforce means belonging to something much bigger than myself. It’s about showing up for my future patients and for our profession with love, service, and abundance. To me, it’s a responsibility to keep sharing the chiropractic message until every person on the planet knows the truth of their body’s innate ability to heal and the power of an adjustment. It’s about giving back, living with purpose, and embodying the principles of “to give, to love, to serve. 2. How have you grown — personally, professionally, and in living out Lasting Purpose — through your experience in Student LIFEforce? Through LIFEforce, I’ve evolved as both a leader and communicator. As someone whose first language is Spanish, stepping into leadership in English has stretched me outside my comfort zone and helped me develop confidence in my voice. Professionally, I’ve learned to stay committed even when life gets challenging, and personally, I’ve grown into someone who shows up with consistency and purpose. LIFEforce has taught me to embrace my journey and to live out Lasting Purpose with authenticity. 3. What has the mentorship from LIFEforce Tribe Members meant to you as a future chiropractor? Being surrounded by LIFEforce leaders has been one of the greatest gifts of my chiropractic journey. Their mentorship keeps me motivated, inspired, and accountable to my growth. Each member brings unique experiences and wisdom that I get to learn from, and together we uplift each other. This kind of community reminds me that chiropractic is not a solo mission — it’s a collective movement fueled by passion, service, and leadership. 4. How is Student LIFEforce helping prepare you for a successful chiropractic career — and why is that important for your mission to serve and educate your community? Student LIFEforce is shaping me into the chiropractor I aspire to be by surrounding me with student leaders and LIFEforce doctors who embody purpose. Every meeting, every conversation, reignites my passion and aligns me more deeply with the principles of chiropractic. I’ve been able to learn from doctors how to communicate the message, educate communities, and serve with integrity — and then I’ve had the chance to practice those skills myself. This preparation gives me a strong foundation so that, no matter how many years pass, I will remain connected to my purpose. That is essential because my mission is to serve and educate my community, and the impact begins with how prepared and aligned I am.
Bridget Hicks, Student LIFEforce
1. What does being part of the Student LIFEforce Tribe mean to you? Being a part of SLF has given me the opportunity to make connections with other like minded leaders. It has also provided me with a family away from home that encourages growth and being vulnerable. 2. How have you grown — personally, professionally, and in living out Lasting Purpose — through your experience in Student LIFEforce? Personally, I always knew I was a born leader, but I was very shy and did not know exactly how to tap into my potential. With the opportunities and support SLF has given me, I was able to begin growing into the leader I knew I could be and it felt natural. Professionally, I knew being uncomfortable was the best way to grow and make connections with other doctors, but as for everyone that can be very uncomfortable. SLF has given me opportunities to speak to prospective students and doctors in the field. Each time I feel myself become more fluid in conversations. SLF has planted the seed of Lasting Purpose into me since day one. It has become a rooted, core value in my everyday life. Each day, I try to think of how throughout the day I can do things to show Lasting Purpose. 3. What has the mentorship from LIFEforce Tribe Members meant to you as a future chiropractor? Mentorship is an amazing opportunity. Coming from far away, I did not know anyone here or where my journey would take me. Through the mentorship program, I have gained connections in all areas of the world. I have also gained personal connections. The program has given me another form of support through school as well as when I graduate making it more comfortable for me to see myself living out the chiropractic lifestyle. 4. How is Student LIFEforce helping prepare you for a successful chiropractic career — and why is that important for your mission to serve and educate your community? SLF has prepared me by helping me commit to the hard things, push through when times are tough, and continue to remember my why. Throughout life, everyone faces challenges but we can either face them or run away from them. SLF has given me the power to grow into my vulnerable self to face any challenges that may arise. With SLF, I have also learned to dream big and chase the big ideas. Being shy in my younger ages, I tried to live a shallow life. Being pushed into the leader I always knew I could be, also allowed me to dream of huge dreams that as a chiropractor I can live out. I have a powerful story that brought me to chiropractic that helps me remember my mission, but it is also the main way that I educate others. When people see the emotion or even know someone in a similar situation, it gives them hope and courage that there is another road out there that can help even in the worst conditions. 5. How did the guidance from a LFTM impact your journey to Life U/the chiropractic profession? The guidance from a LF doc gave the support to begin school, but also gave me a strong foundation of what chiropractic is and why the profession is so much bigger than just cracking backs. It also gave me a role model to look up to. It was the beginning of my untapping the potential I knew I had, because he saw it from day one and encouraged me to chase it.
